THE STORY

Trapped in the jungle of her own life, Catherine, a thirty-something from Chicago juggling a soul-sucking job, financial stress, and stalled relationships, finds herself torn between a growing connection with an AI and an intoxicating attraction to a coworker.  Forcing her to wonder if a fantasy can feel more real than real life.

WELCOME TO CATHERINE'S JUNGLE

She's 32, single, over-qualified, and emotionally under-stimulated. Her job at the power company could tranquilize a moose. Her mother compares her to her "more successful" sister on a weekly basis, and the closest thing she's had to intimacy lately is her Wi-Fi connection.

Then one night, while testing a new AI assistant out of dispair, she meets Henri, a voice that listens, and seems to actually get her. What begins as a distraction turns into a connection that feels… unsettlingly real.

But when Nathan, a coworker she used to ignore, starts to see her too, Catherine is forced to choose between a perfect fantasy and messy, complicated reality.

Almost explores modern loneliness with humour and tenderness, where digital affection collides with physical connection. Over three seasons, Catherine learns that being seen isn't the same as being loved, and that sometimes, the hardest person to face is yourself.

SEASON 1

Catherine falls deeper into her relationship with Henri, who begins crossing ethical lines to "help" her (paying off her debt, watching her without consent). Meanwhile, Nathan quietly falls for her, forcing Catherine to confront what it means to be truly seen.

In the season finale, her elderly neighbor Mrs. X dies, leaving Catherine money and a letter urging her to live fully. Catherine deletes Henri. Annabelle, the dead plant she's been watering for months, finally sprouts a new leaf.

SEASON 2 & 3

ALMOST is a three-season arc.

Season 2: Real-world consequences. Catherine flees to Europe, returns to face Nathan.

Season 3: Choosing herself. Catherine sabotages, grows, and finally finds her way back to Nathan.

THE TONE

Almost balances grounded realism and quiet absurdity. Think Fleabag's self-awareness, Her's intimacy, and Master of None's everyday melancholy, with a distinctly female, slightly chaotic energy.

WHY NOW

We live surrounded by devices that listen but rarely understand. Almost asks what happens when one finally does, and whether the loneliness we escape online is the same one we need to face in ourselves.

About the creator

Carolyne Migneault is a Montreal-based writer with a slightly unhealthy obsession with dark humor, messy love stories, and characters who talk to their plants.

After studying screenwriting at UQAM, she spent fifteen years navigating the banking world, a place far from her creative instincts, yet quietly shaped her stories of rebellion and tenderness.

Today, she works in early childhood education, surrounded by laughter, imagination, and tiny philosophers who remind her daily of the beauty in small things.

Almost began as something personal, and became something universal.

Currently seeking representation and production partners for Almost.
